How often do you need it?
Modern engines don’t need a tune-up the way old ones did, but the parts still wear. Long-life platinum or iridium spark plugs often last 100,000 to 120,000 miles. Older copper plugs need replacing sooner, around 30,000. Air filters typically last 15,000 to 30,000 miles, less on dusty roads.
Typical ranges. Your owner’s manual and your driving decide the real number, and we’ll tell you what we see.
What does it cost?
A tune-up covers whatever your engine is due for, so the bill can be small or large. Call (805) 745-1992 and we’ll quote it for your vehicle.

Common questions about tune-ups
What does a tune-up include today?
Replacing spark plugs and filters, and checking belts, hoses, fluids and codes. Old-style adjustments like points and carburetors are gone.
How often do I need one?
Follow your owner’s manual. Plugs are commonly 100,000 miles or more, filters 15,000 to 30,000.
Will a tune-up improve my mileage?
It can, if your plugs are worn or your filter is clogged.
Is a tune-up the same as an oil change?
No. An oil change is routine and frequent. A tune-up replaces the parts that wear more slowly.
