- The air isn’t cold. The most common A/C complaint. It usually means low refrigerant from a leak, or a part that has stopped working.
- The compressor clicks on and off quickly.Often a sign the system is low on refrigerant.
- Weak airflow from the vents.A clogged cabin air filter or a blower problem cuts the airflow even when the air is cold.
- A musty smell.Moisture in the system can grow mildew. A dirty cabin air filter makes it worse.
- Water on the passenger floor. The evaporator drain may be blocked.
- Oily residue on the A/C lines or fittings.Refrigerant carries oil, so a greasy spot often marks the leak.

Common questions about car A/C
Can you just recharge it?
Low refrigerant almost always means a leak. Adding refrigerant without fixing the leak only buys time, so we look for the leak first.
What refrigerant does my car use?
Most older cars use R-134a and many newer ones use R-1234yf. The label under the hood says which, and each needs its own equipment.
Who is allowed to work on car A/C?
Federal law requires anyone who services a car’s air conditioning for pay to be trained and certified under section 609 of the Clean Air Act.
Why does my A/C smell musty?
Moisture in the system can grow mildew. A new cabin air filter often helps, and we can check the drain and the evaporator.
